West Lake Hills is a suburb located 6 miles west of downtown Austin on the edge of the Hill Country in Travis County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.7 square miles, with approximately 40 miles of public streets. The city of West Lake Hills was founded and incorporated as a village on September 9, 1953. The 1970’s and 1980’s saw a period of rapid growth as many sprawling luxury homes were built in the hills on the south bank of the Colorado River. Residents as well as elected and appointed town officials have always been dedicated to preserving and maintaining the natural beauty of the environment.

Although West Lake Hills is its own community, its close proximity to downtown Austin means easy access to an inexhaustible supply of museums and galleries, world class dining, shopping, entertainment and recreation. Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, and the Barton Creek greenbelt are mere moments away. Also nearby is Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail, 10 miles of trails along Lady Bird Lake, a popular social hub for runners, walkers and cyclists.

Westlake Community Performing Arts Center is a multipurpose performance venue located on the high school campus. The Center is available as a rental house, and is also used by the students of Westlake High School for productions.

Eanes History Center was formed to preserve the history of the development of Eanes Community. The Center, housed in the Old Rock School House, is situated in the middle of the Eanes Elementary School campus. It has long been utilized by the Eanes Independent School District as a learning center, museum and research library. Every year more than 1200 students and residents of the community visit the center and its library, as well as participating in programs organized by the Center.

There are numerous regular and annual events in and around West Lake Hills enjoyed by residents and neighboring communities. Locals flock to the Barton Creek Farmers Market every Saturday, rain or shine. Springtime sees hundreds of kites take flight at the Zilker Kite Festival. The Annual July 4th Parade led by the Westlake Fire Department benefits the Capital Area Food Bank, and has refreshments from local businesses, music, games, a bounce house and more. Each autumn the Westlake Chamber of Commerce along with Westlake area businesses sponsor the annual Westlake Golf Classic with proceeds donated to Mobile Loaves and Fishes. Also benefitting Mobile Loaves and Fishes is Wonderfest, a holiday spectacular featuring Santa on a firetruck and a complete Santa’s village. There are train rides, a bounce house, petting zoo, games, music, face painting and more!
