Pflugerville is located 15 miles north of Austin in Travis County. The town was named after Henry Pfluger, who brought his family here from Germany in 1849. The community of Pflugerville began to develop after the Civil War. By the mid-1890’s it had a population of around 250, with a variety of businesses. The population doubled within a decade of the completion of the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas rail line, which then passed just outside Pflugerville.

Following World War II, many residents moved to Austin and other larger cities. During the 1960’s the population began to grow again, and by the late 1980’s the Pflugerville area was one of the fastest growing regions in Texas.

Today Pflugerville sponsors a number of festivals and family-oriented activities each year, many of which honor the city’s strong sense of heritage. For a dose of local history you can tour the home of the Walter Bohls Family, which was dedicated as a Texas Landmark on October 22, 2006. Or check out Heritage House Museum, open for visitors the first Sunday of each month.

From March to December you can visit the Pflugerville Pfarmers Market where local vendors offer fresh, locally grown and prepared foods, as well as craft items. Or if you want to grow your own, plots are available at Pecan Street Community Gardens.

The City of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation System offers numerous activities with more than 40 miles of hike and bike trails, 16 playscapes, and 500 acres of parkland. You can enjoy a full range of amenities from pavilions, picnic areas, and gazebos as well as a splash park and several public pools, one of which is heated throughout the wintertime. Lake Pflugerville, a 180-acre reservoir which was originally built to provide the community’s drinking water, includes a 3-mile walking/jogging trail, playground, boat launch, pavilion and beach area. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, wind surfing and jogging make this one of Pflugerville’s most popular spots!
