Jonestown, TX – Travis County

Population 1,991 // Official Website // Schools

Often referred to as the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” Jonestown is located 20 miles northwest of Austin in Travis County. Settled in the 1930’s by two brothers, Emmet and Warren Jones, Jonestown originally existed as a populated rural community. In the late 1930’s Mansfield Dam was raised to create Lake Travis, and the idea of Jonestown as a lake resort was born. It started out as a weekend getaway for local fishermen and boaters, but as time passed more and more people began to take up residence here and made the commute to work in surrounding cities. A few fishing cabins can still be found in Jonestown, but new construction is seeing lake-front estates in gated communities as the norm.

The City of Jonestown remains committed to responsible development, economic growth, public service improvements, the addition of more outdoor recreational areas, and continuously improving the quality of life for its residents. Though in the midst of one of the fastest growing population areas in Texas, Jonestown still offers the ease of a country lifestyle with the convenience of a big city next door.
