It is easy to see why Austin, Texas has become such a popular place to live! The state’s capital is centrally located within 200 miles or less of Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. With 300 days of sunshine each year you will enjoy our beautiful lakes and rivers as well as 16,000 acres of dedicated park land and breathtaking hill country vistas. And don’t forget Austin has earned the name “Live Music Capital of the World” for good reason, with over 100 venues offering live music nightly. Academically Austin boasts more than 30 schools within 15 miles, including the University of Texas, Austin Community Colleges and Saint Edward’s University. As if this weren’t enough, in March 2015 Austin was ranked #1 City Worldwide for the Tech Industry, and is home to such technology giants as Dell, IBM and Oracle.

The city’s history dates back to the 1830s, when the first Anglo-American settlers arrived in what was then Mexico. In 1837, they established the village of Waterloo on the banks of the Colorado River; this became the first permanent settlement in the area. In 1839, Waterloo was renamed in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the “Father of Texas.” Austin would soon go on to become the capital of the Republic of Texas.
